Margery Battin
 First Female Town Moderator

Margery Battin was first elected to town meeting in Lexington in 1960. She would serve on the Select Board for 12 years, during three of which she was the board’s Chairperson. In 1987, she was elected to be Lexington’s first ever woman Town Moderator, a role she occupied for 22 years. She also served as the President of both the Massachusetts Moderators Association and the Massachusetts Selectmen's Association simultaneously- the first person to ever do so.

Her commitment to local government and issues knew no bounds, she served as Chairperson of the Lexington Revitalization Committee and countless other local and regional committees. Her work as chairperson on the Mass Municipal Association Tax Policy Committee led to the first, and largest, tax reform legislation in decades.
