Lexington's female leaders of yesterday and today
No womxn were elected to Town Meeting in the 1920s.
Upon the incorporation of the town in 1713, Lexington adopted an Open Town Meeting in which adult, property owning males, known as "freemen," were obligated to attend Town Meeting. This form existed until the first election of Town Meeting Members in 1930. Thus, from 1713 through 1930 there were no womxn who served as part of the body.
